Analysis of the match between Inter and Milan
After nearly 12 years, Max Allegri finally gets to feel the unique atmosphere of the Milan derby again. When Allegri was in his first spell at AC Milan, Cristian Chivu was still playing left-back for Inter. Although Chivu has achieved certain milestones as a coach, he is still far from reaching the experience of Allegri, who has taken his teams to two Champions League finals.
Milan’s recent run of four draws in six Serie A matches has caused them to fall behind in the Scudetto race, allowing Inter to overtake them. However, this season Modric and his teammates have been outstanding in big matches: they held Juventus away, defeated second-placed Roma, and beat Napoli at home. Modric’s presence not only strengthens Milan’s midfield but also accelerates the development of their young squad. And it’s worth remembering that during his Real Madrid years, Modric faced Inter multiple times in the Champions League — and he always won.
Inter welcome the crucial return of Marcos Thuram, which will keep Milan’s defense on high alert against the Thuram–Lautaro duo. Yet since last season, Inter have forgotten how to win derbies despite often being the stronger side. While Inter reached the Champions League final and narrowly missed the Scudetto, Milan couldn’t even qualify for Europe. Even so, Milan still found ways to shine in derby matches during their toughest moments. With their current confidence, the Rossoneri have no reason to fear Inter.
Inter fought hard to reclaim the top spot after a shaky start, but now Chivu’s men must defend it — and beating Allegri is never an easy task.
