Analysis of the match between Bologna and Napoli
Bologna have made an impressive start to this Serie A season, collecting 18 points from their first 10 matches – their best start in Italy’s top flight since the beginning of the 21st century. Following last season’s Coppa Italia triumph, Rossoblu are currently unbeaten in nine games across all competitions, including a 3-1 victory at Parma last week.
However, ahead of hosting Napoli, Bologna came through a disappointing 0-0 draw against Brann in the Europa League qualifiers. This result could slightly affect the team’s confidence as they return to Serie A. Nevertheless, Bologna can remain confident thanks to their unbeaten home record so far this season, with three wins and three draws, capable of posing a challenge to the defending champions Napoli.
Head-to-head statistics also favor Bologna, as the two sides drew in all three of their most recent meetings at the Dall’Ara. Looking further back, despite Napoli being highly rated, they have won only one of their last five matches against Bologna, after previously winning five in a row. These numbers indicate that Antonio Conte and his squad will face a real test in this game.
Napoli recently reclaimed the top spot in Serie A by defeating title rivals Inter Milan at the end of October. However, their form has shown signs of stagnation, with two consecutive home matches ending in 0-0 draws, against Como in Serie A and Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League. Leading the table with 22 points, Napoli are only one point clear of the three chasing teams, meaning any slip-up could prove costly.
